Gas Logs Installs in San Antonio

Quick answer: Gas logs are ceramic logs with a gas burner that sit in a fireplace. Vented gas logs send their exhaust up the chimney and look most like a wood fire; vent-free (ventless) logs burn without an open flue and release their exhaust into the room, so they have stricter limits on use.

Do gas fireplaces need a chimney inspection?

Yes. NFPA 211, the national chimney standard, calls for an annual inspection of chimneys and vents, including those serving gas appliances. Nests, debris or a damaged liner can block gas exhaust, which includes carbon monoxide.

Vented or vent-free gas logs: which should I choose?

Vented logs need a working chimney and an open damper, and give the most realistic flame. Vent-free logs heat more efficiently but release exhaust into the home and are not allowed in some situations. Check local codes and the manufacturer’s instructions; we can help you compare options.

Should I have carbon monoxide alarms with a gas fireplace?

Yes. Any home with gas appliances or a fireplace should have working carbon monoxide alarms. Test them when you test your smoke alarms.
