Types of chimney liners

How do I know if my liner is damaged?
Most liner damage can’t be seen from the fireplace. A Level 2 chimney inspection with a video camera shows the inside of the flue from top to bottom. NFPA 211 calls for a Level 2 inspection after a chimney fire or when you change the type of appliance or fuel.
Can I use my fireplace with a cracked liner?
We don’t recommend it. A cracked liner can let heat reach nearby wood framing and let smoke and carbon monoxide seep into the home. Have the chimney inspected and repaired before your next fire.
